Recession…Will It Effect Business?

April 28, 2009

We’re in the state of a recession, and yes it is effecting us all. Many of the friends around me have lost their jobs. The stock market is going down and many large corporations are going bankrupted.  People are getting laid off.  Even my IRA and retirement funds have dropped over 60%.  Food prices have been going up.

While yes, there is no doubt that it effects us all, the biggest question I’ve been receiving is, “Will it affect Internet sales?”

Yes if you let the fear get to you….No, not if you know how to market.  As Internet Marketers and Internet Entrepreneurs, as long as you keep up with how to market your products and continue to educate yourself, then you will have a huge advantage.

Remember that most local stores around your houses cater to their local economies, so if the local economy drops, then those shops go with it.  Plus their overhead costs, rent, etc; is a lot more.  Stores that are reaching global markets are likely to stay open.  But with the Internet, you reach global markets.  In fact, most of my business customers are not even from my local area.

More Buyers look to Internet stores

As the economy has been one of the big topics, I have been able to ask people about how they shop.  Being that I live in South Carolina, USA many of my friends come from small rural towns that don’t have access to large stores.  They can either drive an hour away to Walmart or order things online with a few clicks of a button.  Most of them choose to order off of Ebay or online stores.

With recent news such as the recession, many people have resorted to buying things online because they can get “better deals”.  So while some stores are failing, that has little effect to the online community.  That is why I have been teaching and preaching to local stores that they must reach these global markets if they want to survive.  I live in one of the states that has the highest unemployment rates in the USA, and I can tell you, it’s really impacting our economy here.  But a lot of people have resorted to buying things online to get cheaper deals.  While you can find a flat screen TV at an electronic store for one price, you can save $500-1000 by shopping online.  With people spending less, they have turned to the online world for a lot more choices.

Some other recent news, like the Swine flu that is coming from Mexico, has people in the USA worried, so eventually we’ll be staying inside our houses and avoiding large crowds, which means people will be buying online more often.

People getting laid off, look to running their own business

A friend of mine got laid off, and he happened to have a hobby.  He turned that hobby into a business, and now he’s extremely busy with customers.  He took a hobby and expertise he had, found a demand / niche, and went for it.  Being that he has no actual store, he has little overhead costs, and by reaching the online community, that leaves room for him to earn a lot more.  There are so many other cases that I could list.

So What’s The Point?

My point is that the economy has very little effect on Internet based business and even some brick and mortar business.  It’s all about finding a demand that will always continue…marketing, dating, religion, self improvement, etc.

Over the past year, business has gone up and down as usual, but more sales have come in versus other years, people are spending.    As an Internet business owner, you will need to be both a smart marketer who knows how to drive targeted traffic and prospects to your site, but you also need to have a product.  But that does not mean you should take things for granted.  Be smart, and work smart.

I’ve been working on a major project with my partners Vince Tan and Edmund Loh for a while now on a cutting-edge business solution that provides both product and traffic combined, which has been a system that all 3 of us have found useful in making a large amount of income.  While yes, affiliate marketing can be great and I still do it, there are specific formulas we have found that worked over the years that we will share with you.

We’ve invested over $100,000 in monetary and man power to create this…

Nearly 2,000 web pages and blogs are talking about it and hundreds of people are tweeting about it on Twitter. So yes, this is going to be big. :-)  I’ll be posting a lot more information on Thursday.

Thanks,

Stephen
